When we experience or witness a distressing event, the trauma of that event is stored within the neuropathways of our brain. For one person it may be an event that can be logically reconciled and stored in memory without causing additional emotional pain. For another, the trauma is relived each time the memory is triggered by a feeling, thought, or other similar experience. This act of re-occurrence is called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and/or uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Originally, this repetition worked as an effective tool to keep our ancestors from harm. Feeling, hearing, seeing, or smelling a triggering stimulus caused adrenaline to spike, pushing them into “fight or flight” mode. This ensured a quick reaction to impending danger, which helped further chances of survival.
In today’s world, most of the dangers we face do not require an ongoing “fight or flight” trigger and therefore only cause us physical, emotional, and/or social damage. Through Rapid Eye Technology (RET) we can recognize the trigger(s) of that past trauma and release the emotions attached to it, enabling us the ability to approach the trigger with no response. This allows us to respond to a situation with clarity and ease that previously would have felt impossible to navigate.
Plan on at least 12 coaching and RET sessions to be free from serious PTSD.
