Addiction

Addiction

Addiction is a coping mechanism used to cover feelings we don’t want to acknowledge. It becomes the thing that makes us “feel good” about our lives for a moment, followed by regret and shame for the behaviour that we then need to cover with another “hit,” so to speak.

There are numerous different types of addictions. To verify addictive behaviour, determine if you are using it to change the way you feel/your emotional state. Addictive substances include but aren’t limited to:
• Alcohol
• Tobacco
• Prescription drugs
• Street drugs
• Sugar

Impulsive and behavioural addictions include:
• Setting fires
• Stealing
• Gambling
• Sex
• Pornography
• Eating
• Video games
• Working
• Exercising
• Spiritual obsession
• Seeking pain/cutting
• Shopping
• Computer dependency (internet surfing, Facebook and other social sites)
Through coaching and Rapid Eye Technology (RET) we can release the root of the feeling that is triggering the addiction and let it go. Continued coaching and RET sessions can overcome an addiction and remove the desire to “use.” Plan on at least 12 sessions with weekly homework to overcome an addiction.
